The presidential candidate of the Justice Must Prevail Party, JMPP, Apostle Sunday Chikendu Ezuzolugo and other candidates of the party Wednesday placed themselves under a “dangerous oath” not to indulge in corruption if elected as President in 2019.
At a special oath-taking ceremony organised by JMPP for all candidates vying for elections under its platform, Ezuzolugo lamented that corruption still thrives to high heavens in the country despite the faiths of political leaders, noting that political leaders in Nigeria take oaths of allegiance with the Bible or Quran yet perpetuate corruption in office.
Decked in white jacket and standing on bare foot while publicly reciting a prepared oath, the presidential candidate called on “nature to strike him dead in office, if he uses the office of the President to indulge in corruption.”
Part of the oath read, “That whatever I ate in the course of corruption in office as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria should turn into poison in my body.”
Giving reasons for taking such an oath, Ezuzolugo said adherents of the two major religious faiths have failed Nigerians while in office, pointing out that it was only his party that administers the 12 pillars of oath to its candidates in order to nip corruption in the bud.
The presidential candidate added that politicians have been deceptive with political promises, stressing that the Justice Must Prevail Party, JMPP, believes in making covenant with the people.
He was however optimistic that he would defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress candidate, President Muhammadu Buhari, and that of the PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar come 2019.
Speaking with newsmen, Ezuzolugo said, “It is not about crime and you said, Nigeria is going to crash? What solves the problem of corruption is the 12 pillars of oath that I have just taken”.
He carpeted President Muhammadu Buhari’s claim to integrity, saying the All Progressives Congress, APC, government has been enmeshed in corruption.
“It is not about integrity. This is the medicine o… for integrity which is the oath I have taken against corruption which cures all about abominations in political office.
“While other parties operate on promises, JMPP operates on covenant with the people.”
