A candid photograph wife of the President, Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, being driven in a new tricycle better known as ‘Keke NAPEP’ Thursday trended on the internet.
She opted to ride in the tricycle, which is the common means of transportation used by ordinary Nigerians, to a public function on Wednesday.
This happened in her husband’s home town of Daura in Katsina State, where she empowered women and youths in the three senatorial districts of Katsina State with 50 tricycles.
She said that the gesture was part of her desire to support women and youths to earn a decent living in the country, and for them to be economically self-reliant
The First Lady had inaugurated a 50-bed capacity maternal and children clinic that was built and equipped by her non-governmental organisation, the Aisha Buhari Foundation
She also used the occasion to make presentation of grinding machines and other materials to members of the public.
During the inauguration, Aisha decried the poor state of maternal and child health in Nigeria, noting that the situation was caused by the poor conditions of the primary healthcare facilities in the country generally.
According to a statement issued by the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture, the President’s wife called on stakeholders and well-to-do Nigerians to address the problem by contributing towards tackling the challenges faced by women
