The body of the missing Maj.-Gen. Idris Alkali has been recovered by soldiers of the Nigerian Army in an abandoned well in Guchwet, Jos South Local Government of Plateau State.
The retired military officer was declared missing on September 3, 2018, on his way from Abuja to Bauchi en route Jos.
He did not reach his destination.
Leader of the Operation Search and Rescue, Brig. Gen. Umar Mohammed, told reporters on Wednesday that plans were in place for a befitting burial for the deceased en route Bauchi state from Jos.
He stated that a parade will be held for the retired officer as an honour, and that there will be a befitting burial for the former Chief of Administration, Nigerian Army headquarters.
Early in October, based on intelligence, soldiers drained a pond in Dura, in Jos Local Government Area of Plateau State, where they found the general’s car and four other vehicles.
Many arrests were made and the district head of Dura was declared wanted. He gave himself up.
The deceased was killed few days after he had retired from the army where served for 35 years.
