Customs officials shoot man to death in Lagos, flee scene

The intervention of policemen from the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, prevented riot from happening at the Oko-Oba area of Lagos State on Wednesday after operatives of the Nigerian Customs Service, NCS, killed a young man they suspected was conveying smuggled rice at Oko-Oba.

The yet-to-be-identified victim, who was on the bus suspected to be carrying smuggled bags of rice, was shot on the head by the trigger-happy Customs officials who immediately fled the scene. Reports say they riddled vehicles around with bullets as they fled.

Angry youths made bonfires on the road in protest against the incident but were later dispersed by men of the RRS.
