Against the backdrop of the wave of defections that hit the ruling party in recent times, President Muhammadu Buhari has declared that God will expose and go after criminals and bad eggs as well as sycophants remaining in the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The President, who stated this in Bauchi on Thursday during a rally for the APC candidate for the Bauchi South senatorial by-election slated for August 11, vowed not to allow selfish politicians loot the public treasury and cheat the masses be cheated.
His words, “I prayed to God to expose sycophants that are still within our party, who are bent on trying to loot our resources. It is my prayer that God will chase away criminals from APC.”
Buhari said his administration had not relented in addressing the security challenges in the country as well as placing the nation on a sound economic footing.
He stressed that his government had remained faithful in implementing its campaign promises of improving the economy, securing the country, and the fight against corruption.
According to him, “The work we are doing is because of God, our country and you. I want to inform you that the knowledge we have garnered over the years, we won’t allow you to be cheated.
“Like we promised, what will determine a good future for the country are security, strong economy and to stop corruption. “We campaigned on these things, you voted for us and we will never forget,” the President said.
“I will not allow cheating in Nigeria, but my ambition is to improve on the security, agriculture and the economy,” he said.
Also speaking, the APC national chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, described former members of the party, who recently defected to the opposition parties, as looters.
The former Edo state governor claimed that the defectors are afraid that they will go to prison if Buhari wins the 2019 presidential election.
He said, “This is a clear indication that some of them (defectors) have been sharing the country’s resources for 16 years, but failed to do that in the last three years. Most of them are afraid of the anti-corruption crusade being waged by this administration, and are sure that they will find themselves behind bars; that they will rot in jail.
“There is no going back on sending those found wanting to jail, no matter how highly placed they are. We are happy over such defection because we are fed up with the nefarious activities being perpetrated by them,” he said.
Re-echoing the words of the President, Oshiomhole said that thieves are not needed in the party, adding that, “We all know in Nigeria those who enter into government to enrich themselves. PDP shared Nigeria’s money for 16 years, but President Buhari said no to it. That is why they are meeting against us.
“They say if Buhari wins election, they will all go to prison. That is why they are running from APC to form a formidable force against us. Most of them hid money in latrines, we don’t need thieves in APC; they should go. If they don’t go, we will pursue them out as two good men are better than 10 and 10 good men are better than thousands. They are holding series of meeting against us, but I certainly know it will fail.”
