The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi ll, has called for a law that will compel emirs, governors and other public office holders to go for drug test before getting into positions of authority.
Sanusi, who made the appeal in Kano at the opening of ongoing Senate Roundtable on Drug Abuse Epidemic in Nigeria, declared that the prevalence of drug abuse was a sign of failure on the part of our governors.
While stating that he would be happy to subject himself to drug test, he said, “Every emir, every politician, every Senator should go through drug test, before attaining any office in the Country they must be subjected to taking a drug test. I will be very happy to subject myself to a drug test.
“When we begin to set this example, the younger ones will understand that if they engage in drug abuse, they will certainly limit their opportunities of becoming leaders.
The Emir, who lamented that the country is facing a greater danger, stressed that “the police, army and other paramilitary officers and men should not be drug addicts”.
