I can take N500,000 monthly to be imprisoned by govt – Amaechi

Erstwhile governor of Rivers State now Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has jocularly revealed that he wouldn’t mind being imprisoned by government if he would be paid N500,000 on a monthly basis.

He stated this after his Information counterpact, Lai  Mohammed spoke off record that the Buhari government spends about N3.5 million monthly to feed incarcerated leader of the Shi’a Islamic Movement of Nigeria, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.

“The issue of whether, where he (Mr El-Zakzaky) is, at least let’s keep it off record, that he is in a residence and you know eating at the… it costs the government about N3.5 million every month to feed him,” Mohammed said in an interaction with journalists.

Amaechi, while apparently mocking the figures said in a video now trending online, “then you people need to take me in o.”

Mohammed, however defended the figure he announced, saying “Honestly, don’t quote me, but these are the facts.”

Continuing, Amaechi stated that he “can take N500,000” monthly to be held in prison by the government.

Newsworth recalls that Amaechi had in an interview on Channels TV in April last year, declared that he does not like money, stressing that Nigerians owe him a lot for saving the country from the corrupt practices of the previous administration.

He said, “I have told Nigerians and I repeat today that I am not corrupt and that I don’t like money. I am not one swayed by money.

“I have lived a character that most Nigerians can tell you.

“I try as much as possible not to annoy God by saying I am honest but with all modesty, I am an honest Nigerian, and there are very few honest Nigerians.”
