The Force Public Relations Officer, FPRO Jimoh Moshood, says the police high command has declared wanted Prince Kassim Afegbua, longtime spokesman of the former military president, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida (retd).
According to a statement by the FPRO, the Inspector-General of Police ordered the immediate arrest of Afegbua “for making false statements, injurious falsehood, defamation of character and for act capable of inciting public disturbance throughout the country.”
“He is therefore declared wanted by the Nigeria Police Force and should report at the nearest police station anywhere he is in the country,” Moshood said in the statement issued on Monday night.
Afegbua was reported to have, on behalf of Babangida, released a widely circulated statement on Sunday critical of the Muhammadu Buhari administration. In the statement, Babangida purportedly criticised Buhari’s leadership and urged him to step aside for a new generation of leaders in 2019.
Although another statement reportedly emerged from Babangida that contradicted the one signed by Afegbua, but the former military ruler himself had in an interview with THISDAY taken ownership of the version released by his spokesperson.
