The Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, has stated that he will not stop his son-in-law and former Chief of Staff, Uche Nwosu and other members of the ruling party in the state from decamping from the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The Governor clarified that while he will remain in the APC, he was going to support Nwosu in any party he decides to join.

Speaking while exchanging views with newsmen  at the Government House in Owerri yesterday, he insisted that Nwosu remains the best candidate for the governorship election in the state, describing Senator Hope Uzodinma’s emergence as the candidate of the APC as the “worst imposition in Nigeria political history”.

Okorocha however assured whichever party his followers defect to, they will deliver President Muhammadu Buhari, despite their grievances over the conduct of the APC.

According to him, “As a father of Imo state, I still remain in the best position to select the best among Emeka Ihedioha, Hope Uzodinma, Ifeanyi Araraume and Uche Nwosu who is the best among all of them.

“Nwosu believes in Imo state, he has investment in the state. Nwosu is my candidate. Any party that these young men want to go they are free and I want to say it again that Nwosu is my candidate.

“In selecting who will govern Imo state, you look at the past record, their history and what investment they have brought to Imo state. I want to announce to you that I am still running for the Senator and my party is still the APC.

“All these people are used as instrument to fight me for 2023. It will not affect my victory in 2019. Let me also say this, my boys never intended to betray me. They were given fake hope.”

The Imo Governor stated that Uzodinma deceived his deputy, Prince Madumere, his immediate past secretary to the government, Sir George Eche, and Sir Jude Ejiogu, who was also a former secretary to the state government.

“Hope has played them 419 and today they never got the governor and deputy. They were promised that they would be given the guber ticket to Owerri zone. And today, where is the ticket for Owerri zone. They lost it. They have given it to another person.”

The outgoing governor assured that he would not be a sleeping senator when he gets elected to the National Assembly, as was the case presently, where the senators from Imo State have failed to attract a single federal government project to the state.
