Nigeria’s former Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on Friday confirmed her appointment as a member of the Board of Twitter.
She was on Thursday announced as one of the independent directors on Twitter’s board, replacing Marjorie Scardino, former Chief Executive of Pearson.
Speaking on her new appointment, the former minister expressed her willingness to work with Twitter.
In a series of tweets via her verified Twitter handle, she wrote: “Excited to work with @Jack and an incredible team on the Board of Twitter, a global platform that is such a strong connector of people and ideas.
“Thanks for the privilege, Jack,” Okonjo-Iweala tweeted.
Meanwhile, former president Goodluck Jonathan, under who Okonjo-Iweala served as coordinating minister for the Economy, has congratulated her on her appointment into the board of Twitter.
He stated that his former minister of Finance deserves the appointment as she managed the finances of Nigeria very well during their time in government.
Jonathan wrote in a Facebook post, “I am not surprised that Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala has been appointed into the board of Twitter.
“If anyone merits such an appointment, it is definitely a woman who helped her nation manage its finances most prudently and was instrumental to pulling many millions out of poverty.
“Ngozi, I am proud of you. You served Nigeria most meritoriously and I am more than certain that you would do the same at Twitter. Congratulations.”
