A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Buba Galadima, has stated that former president Goodluck Jonathan cheated himself by not dragging President Muhammadu Buhari to court over the outcome of the 2015 presidential election.
He said Jonathan shot himself in the leg by conceding defeat to then All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate even before the conclusion of the election process.
Galadima stated this while featuring on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, stressing that Jonathan could have defeated Buhari in court if the former had challenged the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on the 2015 presidential poll.
According to Galadima: “He could have successfully triumphed because of what had happened eventually from the rulings of the Supreme Court on Rivers and Akwa Ibom.
“With the benefit of insight, I think Jonathan shot himself on the foot.”
Despite being the incumbent President in 2015, Jonathan had refused to drag Buhari to court, and had called Buhari to concede defeat even before the final tally of the election result.
The spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential campaign organisation, noted that unlike Jonathan, the party’s standard bearer, Atiku Abubakar has headed to court and ‘rightly so’, adding that Atiku’s move will not in any way trigger violence across the nation.
He alleged that there were malpractices in the just concluded elections and accused the ruling party of using the military to their own favour.
Galadima slammed what he termed as a military take-over of the polls, saying that “the military has no business in appearing during elections”.
