Obasanjo reveals kind of candidate he’ll endorse for 2019 presidency

Former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has stated that he will support any presidential candidate who has the capability to turn the country’s fortune around “for good”.

While identifying the lack of “qualitative leadership” as one of the major challenges confronting Nigeria, he stated that he had not lost hope because God had blessed Nigeria with men and women of caliber who can stand their own in the world.
Obasanjo spoke when he granted audience to a PDP presidential aspirant, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki SAN, at his residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State on Thursday, who paid him a visit with a 10-man delegation that included former governor of Adamawa state, Boni Haruna.
After listening to the speeches by Turaki and Haruna (DG Kabiru Tanimu Turaki Campaign Organization), he said “Listening to you, I believe you have got the concerns of Nigerians today in the area of security, economy and cohesion. Anybody who will lead Nigeria to the promised land will have my support.”
“Let me say that what is happening here today or what you are making to happen with your delegation particularly gladdens my heart,” he said.
“You are firming up and stabilising our democracy. Democracy is not a destination but a journey and there is no nation that can claim to have reached the final destination.
“It is good for us as a nation and our democracy. We have said a lot of things that we have identified about what we need to put right as a country. What do we lack? Why are we not where we should be?
“We are so divided today the way we have not been before. People are deprived socially and economically. But you know, I have never lost hope.”
Obasanjo condemned the siege laid to the residences of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki and his Deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, saying that he was “embarrassed” by a number of things happening in the country.
“We are in a position to do better than what we are doing today,” he said.
