PDP crisis worsens as new faction opens secretariat in Abuja

A group of five men on Wednesday “opened” a new secretariat for the main opposition party,  the Peoples Democratic Party, in Abuja. They gave the slogan of the new group as: “Fresh PDP, PDP First”.

The five men are Prince Obi Nwosu, Alhaji Hassan Adamu, Chief Olusola Akindele, Chief Godwin Duru and Franklyne Edede, as their leader stated that the move was caused by an alleged imposition of a Unity List of party leaders on members on December 9.

The office is located at No. 10, Tito Bros street, opposite Bon Hotel (former Protea Hotel) in Asokoro, Abuja. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC-recognised national headquarters of the party is located at Wuse, Zone 5, Abuja.

Nwosu, who is the leader of the five-man faction, said that members of the National Working Committee, NWC, of his group would be announced in January next year.

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, he said the name of the new group is ‘Fresh PDP’, stressing that some unidentified prominent members of the PDP were behind the new party.

“We own this party. Those who wanted to hijack the party during the December 9th national convention were not even in PDP when it was formed in 1998.

“We won’t allow usurpers take over our party. The unity list was imposed on us on December 9th and we are resisting it now,” Nwosu said.

Newsworth recalls that one of the chairmanship aspirants in the December 9 national convention, Prof. Taoheed Adedoja, has filed a suit in court, seeking that the election in that convention which produced Uche Secondus as the PDP National Chairman be nullified.

Following the discontent on the way and manner the national working committee members of the party emerged from that convention, a reconciliation committee headed by Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa state, has reached out to many aspirants who lost out of the race.
