Soldiers deployed in Pulka to battle Boko Haram terrorists have rescued one of the Chibok girls abducted by the terrorists in April 2014.
Preliminary investigations have so far revealed that the young girl, whose name was given as Salomi Pagu is the same as the Chibok girl with serial number 86 in the online list of the abducted young women.
This was made known on Thursday in a statement issued by the Deputy Director Public Relations, Theatre Command Operation Lafiya Dole, Col. Onyema Nwachukwu.
“Currently the girl who was intercepted in the company of another young girl, Jamila Adams about 14 years old with a child are in the safe custody of troops and receiving medical attention,” the statement read.
Newsworth recalls that 82 of the over 200 girls were released by the terrorist group in May 2017 following a negotiation with the Nigerian government.
Before then, a set of the 21 young women were released earlier in October 2016. Three others were subsequently rescued by the Nigerian Army.
